Gender Reveal Party

June 9, 2014

So when we first found out we were expecting, David and I had a conversation about whether or not we would decide to find out the baby’s gender. David expressed that he’d like to know and thought it would work out well for me so that I could plan/decorate accordingly. I always thought I’d wait to find out but also didn’t have an extreme opinion one way or the other so I made a deal- if we were going to find out the gender, we would do it by having a Gender Reveal Party. After explaining to David what that meant, he was on board…and I think he’d agree that it was worth it! We were able to find out the gender in a unique way AND share the moment with our family and close friends.

To make the gender reveal work we had to have the assistance of our ultrasound technician. When we went for our 20 week ultrasound we gave her a blank card with an envelope and asked her to put any images that revealed the gender in the card. She obliged and even sealed the envelope for us with a sticker! The day of the party Shauna spent the morning preparing amazing cupcakes in both blue and pink and a larger round cake made from “Grandma’s” recipe (per my request). About an hour before party time she kicked us out of the apartment to open the card and frost the cake. The method went like this- if the inner frosting (the frosting layers) were pink it meant girl and if it was blue it meant boy. Shauna did such an amazing job with the cake and she was SO honored to be the first to know!

Our party was amazing and very relaxing with fun games/activities to do. We had a pick-a-side board where you got to vote what you thought we might be having and take a clothes pin to sport your vote, a wives tale board to give people more information about how my pregnancy had been going (and maybe a little assistance in the voting), and a “Guess the date” calendar for people to guess what my actual due date would turn out to be. I think everyone enjoyed it and we sure appreciated all the love and support we felt that day.

Please enjoy the photos from our day and get ready for a GIRL to join our family in a few months!!
