San Diego Work, Wedding & Graduation

August 14, 2018

It was time to plan our early summer trip to San Diego and similar to previous years I was able to “work” it to make it a work trip as well so I took the time and did a ride along with one of our installation technicians. Besides work and relaxation, we were there for Doug & Jessica’s wedding as well as Mikayla graduating from high school.

That Friday after getting in we headed up to Fullerton where the wedding was to take place and used that time to get a feel for the area as well as have dinner at Roscoes (though we all agreed this was probably the worst experience we’ve had there). I was one of Doug’s groomsmen and Lia was the flower girl. Nora wasn’t quite walking yet but you could see that she wanted to get down and walk with her. The ceremony and reception were held in Hillcrest Park at the Hillcrest Recreation Center which is a beautifully designed venue perfect for an small and intimate wedding. We enjoyed food from the “taco guy”, donuts from the donut wall, and just simply being all together.

Since I prefer to let the wedding photographers take photos at weddings, these were some captures from the day we got in as well as a video from the pool:

The day after the wedding, we grabbed lunch with the family then headed back to San Diego. Later that week we went to Mikayla’s high school graduation then went out to dinner with the family to one of their favorite restaurants: 94th Aero Squadron. We’re very proud of you Mikayla, looking forward to what comes next!

Of course, a San Diego trip wouldn’t be a San Diego trip without the consumption of copious amounts of mexican food. I can think of at least 5-6 different trips to the taco shop, which even i’ll admit wasn’t enough. But alas, we continue to have something to look forward to. Speaking of obvious, it also wouldn’t be a San Diego trip if we didn’t get Grandpa to join us (at Lia’s request) and visit SeaWorld. Nora loved seeing the different fishes and playing the musical instruments. Lia still loves the sharks and turtles but said no thanks to the kid rides. Grandpa and I got to ride Electric Eel, their newest coaster, to which Lia asked if she could ride but wasn’t tall enough. Next year kid…maybe…

Cara and the kids stayed another week while I headed back early but before I left we had a little get together at Liberty Station park with family and close friends. The kids played at the playground, we flew kites, played fetch with an ittybittypitty, little bit of lacrosse and baseball, then after we left Mom, Lia and I made a late night run to SeaWorld so she could ride Electric Eel as well. Lia was excited to be able to stay up late and ride in Grandma’s car. By the time we left it was well past her bedtime and it took no longer than 5 minutes for her to pass out.

Looking forward to our next trip!
